Transportation Department Opens Airline Applications for New Daily DC Routes

Five additional daily flights are planned at Reagan National beginning in mid-July.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) opened applications for five new daily flights at Reagan National Airport to seven major airlines. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, Air Canada, and Alaska Airlines are all eligible to apply.

The department said it encouraged airlines “to provide no more than one backup service proposal in their applications,” citing the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill signed by the president in May that requires the new flights to begin by mid-July.

Delta lobbied for the passage of this legislation and will likely apply for at least one new flight between Reagan and Seattle. Southwest, American Airlines, and Alaska Airlines are also interested in connecting key areas to the Arlington, Virginia, airport that is closest to Washington, D.C. Applications are due by July 8.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Whitaker to be led by God as he heads the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • For Secretary Buttigieg and Transportation Department officials as they review the applications for additional flights for the District of Columbia.
  • For wisdom for members of Congress as they assess the needs and seek to address the challenges facing the nation.
