The agencies say ISIS sympathizers may take advantage of “heightened threat environment.“
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a public service announcement about the potential for foreign terrorist organizations (FTO) to attack LGBTQ events during Pride Month in June.
The agencies’ joint statement said, “Foreign terrorist organizations or supporters may seek to exploit increased gatherings associated with the upcoming June 2024 Pride Month. FTO efforts to commit or inspire violence against holiday celebrations, including Pride celebrations or LGBTQIA+-related venues, are compounded by the current heightened threat environment in the United States and other western countries.”
The FBI listed instances of ISIS supporters posting rhetoric on online messaging boards and making general calls to target LGBTQ gatherings in future attacks. The agency offered indicators to watch for regarding threats of violence and to report suspicious activity to the nearest FBI office.
