Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made. – Isaiah 43:7
In nearly every archaeological dig across the world, fragments of pottery reveal surprising information about the people of that place. What is it? How old is it? Who made it? What was it for? The baked clay potsherds yield information about how the people lived, what they ate, how they organized themselves, and what they valued. Even in advanced civilizations where pots were highly decorated and often polychromed, one thing remains true: there was an intentional purpose for it.
In today’s world, many people question why they were born and what their purpose might be. As God told the prophet Jeremiah, “Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you” (Jeremiah 1:5, MSG). In his case, Jeremiah was to be a prophet to the nations. You were not an accident. God has intentional plans for your life. He knew its end and numbered your days even before you were born. Your very clear purpose is to glorify Him. How? Theologian John Piper says, “We should live in order to display the supreme worth and beauty and glory of God.” The Westminster Catechism states, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.” Ecclesiastes 12:13 says, “The end of the matter, all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”
Recognize and accept how valuable you are in the Lord’s sight and how He has empowered you to know and follow His plan for you. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). Pray for members of Congress who follow Christ and ask God to reveal His purposes for them in their respective positions.

2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
