In the News…
The U.S. Department of Labor announced a rule that updates mandatory overtime pay to roughly 4 million salaried employees. The department announced that those who earn less than $1,128 in weekly salary will be eligible for overtime when they work over 40 hours.
The first salary threshold increase, to $43,888, will be effective July 1. The second increase, to $58,656, will be effective January 1, 2025.
Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su said, “This rule will restore the promise to workers that if you work more than 40 hours in a week, you should be paid more for that time. Too often, lower-paid salaried workers are doing the same job as their hourly counterparts but are spending more time away from their families for no additional pay.“
