He said there’s “no guarantee” that it’s possible without Congressional approval.
President Joe Biden said this week that he and his administration are exploring the legal possibility of shutting down the U.S. southern border under presidential authority.
“We’re examining whether or not I have that power,” President Biden said, adding there was “no guarantee” he has the power without congressional legislation.
The president was encouraged to pursue this potential legal route because of previous discussions held by the current Congress. A bill drafted by congressional negotiators regarding the border is currently stalled in the House. An article in that bill would reportedly give the president congressionally-approved authority to shut down all migration across the Southern Border.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for the president and his national security advisors as they consider the legalities of border security and control.
- For Secretary Mayorkas, DHS, and border security officers as they deal with overwhelming numbers of undocumented immigrants.
