Golden Rule

And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.      Luke 6:31

An August 2022 article in the Harvard Business Review suggests “it’s time to stop following ‘The Golden Rule.’” Instead of treating others as you would like to be treated, they suggest adopting a rule where you “treat others as they would like to be treated,” practicing “understanding, curiosity, and compromise.” Sometimes called “The New Golden Rule” or “The Platinum Rule,” it has become part of the humanistic diversity, equity, and inclusion culture.

From the time of the giving of the Law at Sinai to the teachings of Jesus and the writings of the apostles, loving your neighbor as yourself has been the second half of the great commandment of loving the Lord God. Maslov might have had his hierarchy of needs, but God alone knows the full condition of the human heart. In summarizing His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus includes today’s verse to do unto others—the most practical way of loving one’s neighbor as yourself! Theologian Henry Blackaby says, “Jesus knew the human heart and its selfishness. … So Jesus’ ‘Golden Rule’ gives us a standard to look to.”

Make the Bible your ultimate guide when examining the ideas of culture. Apply the principles of Scripture to the issues of the day. “Watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them” (Romans 16:17). Pray over the leaders in government who promote an unbiblical and godless agenda for Americans, particularly regarding children and youth.

Today’s Verse: Luke 6:31

And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.

32 “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

37 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
