Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. – Matthew 5:16
In high school physics, you learn there are two general sources of light: natural sources and artificial ones. Most of the natural light you experience comes from the sun. The moon has no light of its own but merely reflects sunlight, and while stars twinkle for you at night, they offer little usable light. Artificial light, on the other hand, has various basic sources: thermal, luminescent, microchip charge, and gas discharge. The physical properties of light happen through electromagnetic radiation, when molecules get “excited” and energized. Descartes, Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Nicola Tesla, and many more, all had their theories on how light occurs. However, all light has this in common: energy is its basic requirement.
Jesus said to let your light shine—He desires that His followers receive His power and energy as the source so that what you do for His glory is visible to others. God is light (1 John 1:5). Jesus is the Light of the world (John 8:12). There is light in the Gospel of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4). You reflect the supernatural light of Jesus Christ to others, and shine brightly by His power as you stay “plugged in” to Him and His Word. He is your underlying Source of everything.
Believer, the Lord calls you to be vibrant, full of life, love, peace, joy, and light! Pray for His followers in the chambers of government to shine His light, radiantly reflecting Jesus Christ to those around them.
Today’s Verse: Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
