The U.S. ambassador in Moscow was cautioned against interference with Russian internal affairs.
U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy was summoned to Moscow last week, where the Russian foreign ministry warned her that U.S. diplomats exhibiting “subversive actions” related to Russia’s upcoming election will be expelled from the country.
Russia’s presidential election will be held between March 15 and 17. Since President Vladimir Putin’s main opponent, Alexei Navalny, died under mysterious circumstances in a Russian prison in late February, Putin is expected to be reelected president.
The Russian foreign ministry said it would look out for what it called “the spread of information” around its “special military operation” in Ukraine, and that such behavior would be “firmly and resolutely suppressed, up to and including the expulsion as ‘persona non grata’ of United States Embassy staff involved in such actions.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary of State Blinken to be prudent in his oversight of U.S. ambassadors.
- For U.S. diplomats in Russia to be discerning regarding their conduct and engagements during that nation’s elections.
