In the News…
U.S. Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois and Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin have proposed the “Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act” that would require ByteDance, a company based in China, to divest itself of TikTok within months or be banned in the U.S.
Congressman Krishnamoorthi, the ranking member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, previously stated, “TikTok, under its current ownership and control structure, is an unmitigable threat to our national security and needs to be dealt with as such.“
Over a dozen legislators have co-sponsored the bill, which would also address applications under the control of others foreign adversaries, such as Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
