VERSE OF THE WEEK
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. – Romans 14:17
Yield to the Lord
In the 1600s, Fénelon, the Archbishop of Cambrai, provided spiritual guidance to some believers who served in the court of King Louis XIV. In that hedonistic environment, the archbishop urged his pupils in faith to “cultivate peace“ and “turn a deaf ear“ to ambitious thoughts. He stated that “the strivings of the human mind“ impair the health of the body and dry up the soul – that inner striving can consume your life! He instructed scrupulous obedience, saying, “Christian love goes straight to God in pure simplicity.“ In this current century, living to please oneself has become ever more promoted and evident. As you consider political candidates, both those in office and those seeking it, pray for discernment to recognize those who will serve selflessly. Ask the Lord to show you where you need to yield your desires and ambitions to Him.
