Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The White House recently released a fact sheet detailing how President Biden’s request for funding for border security would be used. Among the provisions outlined, the proposed $20 billion would increase the number of Customs and Border Protection agents, Asylum officers, and immigration judges and provide financial assistance to cities and states “providing critical services to newcomers.“

For the president and his advisors to be discerning as they promote immigration pathways and means of integrating migrants into the U.S.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

House Speaker Mike Johnson invited Mia Schem, an Israeli woman released after being held hostage by Hamas, and the family of Evan Gershkovich, a U.S. journalist imprisoned in Russia, to President Biden’s State of the Union address. The U.S. government considers the reporter, who was charged with espionage just under a year ago, to be wrongfully detained.

Pray for the majority and minority leaders in both chambers of Congress as they continue government funding negotiations.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Armed Services Committee, chaired by Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island, heard testimony Thursday from Marine Corps General Langley, Commander of the U.S.-Africa Command, and General Kurilla, Commander of the U.S. Central Command, on the current status of their commands. The committee is reviewing the Defense Authorization Request for Fiscal Year 2025 and the Future Years Defense Program.

Pray for congressional committees as they evaluate the funding requests from the Defense Department and seek to determine the effectiveness of appropriations.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito ordered a temporary freeze on the Fifth Circuit’s stay that would allow Texas to enforce its new border security and immigration law. President Biden’s administration has sought to stop the enactment of the state law allowing law enforcement to arrest people coming across the border illegally.

Pray for wisdom for the justices of the Supreme Court as they determine how to rule and decide on the cases and requests presented to them.
