DOT Approves Loan for North Carolina Turnpike Completion

The ongoing project will extend the highway near Raleigh by 10.8 miles.

The Department of Transportation approved a $417 million loan to extend the I-40 to an interchange outside of Raleigh, North Carolina by an additional 10.8 miles. This $1.3 billion project will connect I-40 to I-540, I-87, U.S. 64, and U.S. 264 with six interchanges, 24 bridges, 14 culverts, and extra coastal access in case of emergency evacuation. Construction is expected to be completed by 2028.

“This important infrastructure project will provide congestion relief by allowing local north-south travelers options to avoid the busiest segments of 540 in southwest Raleigh,” said Deputy Transportation Secretary Polly Trottenberg. “Completing the route will also ensure the community has an additional evacuation route to help during emergencies such as hurricanes on the coast.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Secretary Trottenberg as she facilitates the federal lending program to support state infrastructure.
  • For Secretary Buttigieg to be directed by God in overseeing the Transportation Department.
