Secretary Raimondo says the government has a role in setting AI standards and development.
Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the formation of the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium, bringing over 200 companies and organizations together to be on the frontlines of artificial intelligence (AI) development.
AI programs pull from complex data sets to generate a wide array of images and writings with a small amount of human directive input. These algorithms are a potential tool to streamline legal paperwork, bank loan calculations, and other similarly complex processes by accessing already available data.
However, to avoid the risks that come with new technologies, the Commerce Department has partnered with a variety of organizations to advance AI while keeping the government connected with the direction research is headed.
“The U.S. government has a significant role to play in setting the standards and developing the tools we need to mitigate the risks and harness the immense potential of artificial intelligence,“ said Secretary Raimondo. “President Biden directed us to pull every lever to accomplish two key goals: set safety standards and protect our innovation ecosystem. That’s precisely what the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium is set up to help us do.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Raimondo to be prudent as she engages with the consortium on guidelines for the use and development of artificial intelligence.
- For discernment for members of the AI Safety Institute Consortium as they advise the Commerce Department.
