District Judge Colleen McMahon issued an order requiring the last of four men involved in a plan to attack New York synagogues be released from prison.
The four men, known as the “Newburgh Four,” were arrested in 2009 for plotting to attack synagogues and the community center of Newburgh, New York. They also planned to launch stinger missiles at the military aircraft they suspected would intervene. In her ruling, Judge McMahon blamed this conspiracy on the FBI informant Shahed Hussain, who received fake bombs and $250,000 from the FBI to infiltrate mosques and entice vulnerable Islams to become potential extremists.
“The real lead conspirator was the United States,” Judge McMahon wrote. “The FBI invented the conspiracy; identified the targets; manufactured the ordinance.”
