The secretary continues to recover from his recent hospitalization.
Representative Matt Rosendale of Montana submitted articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
Following the submission, Representative Rosendale stated, “The pattern of misinformation and lies [the defense secretary] has provided to the American people are a serious threat to our national security and cannot be tolerated. It is time to make a change.”
The articles list a number of points, including “that [he] has degraded the honor of the United States by providing aid to its enemies,” and “failed to uphold his oath of office when he allowed a Chinese high-altitude balloon to fly over North American airspace.” Also, regarding the latter, the articles state that Secretary Austin “lied to the American people about the incident and the dangers posed to the United States.”
The articles do not address the secretary’s recent health issues when he was hospitalized On New Year’s Day in the ICU, which was not revealed in a timely way to the administration or others. On January 8, the Defense Department said the secretary has “resumed the full duties of his office” as he continues to recover.
