Tornados hit the region of Fort Campbell earlier this month.
As part of First Lady Jill Biden’s Joining Forces Initiative, she visited Fort Campbell in Kentucky on Saturday. EF-3 tornadoes hit counties in both Kentucky and Tennessee on December 9. Though the military base did not incur significant damage, hundreds of military families were displaced by power outages and damage to their homes at the time. The military base reported that 68 families currently remain displaced.
“I know that the last two weeks have really tested your strength by even in this moment of grief and heartbreak, there is so much love and support that surrounds you,“ First Lady Jill Biden stated to the families. As she introduced Santa, she said, “I know the holidays look a little bit different this year, so I brought this special guest with me all the way from the North Pole!”
“Thoughts and prayers are great and we always appreciate that,” said 101st Airborne Division’s Major General Brett Sylvia as he spoke to the families. “But it’s even better when we see it turned into real action and activities and that is what we’ve seen here.”
