Cast our burden on the Lord and he will sustain you. – Psalm 55:22
Anyone who has spent time fly fishing understands the need for the perfect cast of the line. It takes years of practice to get the loops just right and place the fishing lure exactly where you need it to be. With enough time and a good deal of practice, one can become proficient at that graceful sport.
The dictionary says when you are proficient you are competent or skilled at doing or using something. “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you,” states 1 Peter 5:7. Today’s verse says to “cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you.” How proficient are you at casting those burdens on Him?
Certainly, your burdens and anxieties are heavier than a hand-tied fly, and your casting might not be as graceful as that fisherman standing in the middle of a shallow stream, but as you practice giving them over to the Lord, you become “skilled” at doing so. Burdens are too heavy to bear alone, and anxieties build over things that are out of your control. You have a blessed Savior who says let go – He is strong enough to shoulder your burdens, and He is able to calm your anxieties. Always remember, He cares for you!
Carrying burdens and being anxious is unnecessary and can limit your faith in God. Casting those cares and burdens away to Him may be a struggle at first. What a relief it is to cast them away and leave them with Him! As you pray for the nation today, consider the leaders in Congress, those who head up investigative committees, and those who desire to live a God-fearing life. Pray for them because these are evil times and they are under extreme pressure.
Today’s Verse: Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the Lord,
and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
the righteous to be moved.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
