November 16th – Thursday

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours. – 1 Chronicles 29:11

On this day in 1907, the Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory were admitted together into the Union as the 46th state of Oklahoma. The name of the state originated in the Choctaw Indian words “okla,“ which means “people,“ and “humma,” meaning “red.“ The U.S. obtained the land in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. Oklahoma has cycled through abundance and scarcity, first through agricultural production and the subsequent Dust Bowl in the 1930s. Oil production created prosperity in the 1970s until the market bust. As you pray for governing officials today, think about how the Lord has brought you through hard times in your life. Today’s verse says that the heavens and the earth belong to Him. As you go through difficult experiences, let yourself meditate on the greatness, power, glory, victory, and the majesty of God.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For members of Congress as they steward the territories of the United States.
  • For the governors of each of the 50 states to seek God’s guidance as they serve.
