Issue 621 – National Prayer Needs

Additional National Prayer Needs

Pray for America’s Military

The Department of Veterans Affairs is being investigated by Congress for its reliance on Chinese medical supplies. Legislators are looking into whether VA officials have taken action to counter risks to the supply chain, and the extent to which the reliance on China reliance is a national security risk.

Pray for members of Congress as they probe the risks to national security and to veterans’ health by the use of Chinese-made medical supplies.

PRAY FOR AN END TO THE WAR IN UKRAINE

President Zelensky declared there will not be a presidential election in Ukraine next year. Though his five-year term is drawing to a close, he is currently maintaining a suspension of elections under martial law conditions.

Pray for international leaders as they assess the political situation in Ukraine as the war with Russia continues.

Pray for AMERICA’S FOREIGN RELATIONS

The United States and its allies in NATO have withdrawn from the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty following the formal withdrawal by Russia. The treaty limited the number of military vehicles and weapons that could be deployed in Europe. A White House official said the formal suspension by the U.S. will occur on December 7.

Pray for the president and U.S. officials as they make decisions in response to Russia’s withdrawal from arms control agreements.

Pray for AMERICA’S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development reported in its “Health at a Glance” that the United States falls behind dozens of other developed nations for life expectancy. According to the report, the U.S. ranked “worse than average,” at 76.4 years. Switzerland had the highest, at 83.9 years.

Pray for governing officials as they seek to address issues that impact aging in the U.S. and make it difficult to achieve a higher life expectancy.

Pray for AMERICA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL

Israel is becoming increasingly isolated in the international community as more countries withdraw their diplomats from Israel, including a number in South America. These withdrawals are intended to pressure Israel to establish a ceasefire in Gaza.

Pray for wisdom for the leaders of Israel to do what is necessary for their national security.

Pray for AMERICA’S ECONOMY

The Federal Reserve is prepared to hike interest rates again. Chairman Jerome Powell said at a Washington conference this would happen “if it becomes appropriate to tighten policy further.”

Pray for U.S. financial and economic decision-makers as they evaluate whether or not interest rate hikes have helped to stall inflation.

Pray for Goodness in America

Surgeons at New York University’s hospital have performed the world’s first transplant of an entire human eye. The patient also needed a portion of his face transplanted. It is too soon to know the success of the procedure and the doctors and patient are taking things “a day at a time.”

Give thanks for the skills of the surgeons and the technology available that has made a full eye transplant possible. Pray for healing and functionality in the outcome.

Pray for Needs Across the States

The Senate in Texas passed two bills concerning immigration. One would make crossing the border from Mexico into Texas a crime, and the other appropriates more than $1.5 billion for border enforcement.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has authorized $2.5 million to support efforts to protect at-risk communities “in response to a rise in hate crimes and incidents of harassment“ after the Hamas attacks.

Pray for the governors and legislators in the states as they deal with issues that are important to their people.

Pray for America’s Faith Community

“Gen Z is looking for Jesus. They’re hungry for Jesus, and they’re tearing down the scaffolding that we put around Jesus. Millennials and Gen Zers, they wait in line for two hours to come to church, and so there’s a hunger and an awakening that I see happening. God is more than a theology; [Christianity] is more than a belief system. He’s [Jesus] a man that we’re after. He’s a man that we’re burning with first love passion, and I’m loving what God’s doing.“ – Pastor Michael Miller, Upper Room, Dallas, TX, November 2023
