Government funding may also be an issue.
The House Ways and Means Committee conducted a hearing on Wednesday on funding of the terror group Hamas. They particularly focused on a handful of charities with apparent ties to the group. Legislators are also looking into the strong support of Hamas and the antisemitism that has been occurring on college campuses across the U.S.
Representative Jason Smith of Missouri, the committee chairman, said support of Hamas by tax-exempt U.S. charities is “deeply concerning.”
Congressman Smith said, “The American people have a right to know whether organizations with beneficial U.S. tax treatment are complicit in the vicious attack on the Jewish people or any act of terrorism around the world, and the Ways and Means Committee will continue to investigate these developments to ensure these tax-exemptions are not being abused and Americans are not unknowingly financing violence.“
There are reports that the State Department and Internal Revenue Service are or have been conducting reviews of at least one major organization and U.S. government funding.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Congressman Smith as he chairs the committee and oversees the investigation into the funding of terrorism.
- For members of the House Ways and Means Committee to seek God’s wisdom as they look into U.S. funding of Hamas.
