FTC Reports Decline in Cigarette and Smokeless Tobacco Sales

Menthol and other non-tobacco product purchases comprise half of purchases.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently released a Cigarette Report that provides data on industry sales in 2022. The number of cigarettes sold by the nation’s largest companies dropped from 190.2 billion in 2021 to 173.5 billion last year.

The FTC also reported that “smokeless tobacco sales decreased from 122 million pounds in 2021 to 113.3 million pounds in 2022. The revenue from those sales rose from $4.96 billion in 2021 to $4.98 billion in 2022. Menthol flavored smokeless tobacco products comprised more than half of all sales and fruit flavored smokeless tobacco products comprised 2.6 percent of pounds sold.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For FTC Chair Lina Khan to be led by the Lord as she heads the commission.
  • For members of the FTC to be discerning as they evaluate and report on the U.S. marketplace.
  • With gratitude for the health benefits Americans will experience due to the decreased use of tobacco.
