USDA Supports Innovative Domestic Fertilizer Production

Secretary Vilsack highlights progress under the Fertilizer Production Expansion Program.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced progress in enhancing domestic fertilizer production and supporting American farmers through double cropping initiatives. During his visit to Pernault Farms in Kankakee, Illinois, the USDA secretary highlighted the department’s commitment to these practices.

Under the Fertilizer Production Expansion Program (FPEP), the USDA allocated $52.6 million to fund 17 projects aimed at boosting domestic fertilizer manufacturing, promoting innovative fertilizer technologies, and reducing costs for farmers. These efforts are part of a larger initiative to support agricultural sustainability and global food security.

“Through a farmer-focused commitment, we will continue to build on our efforts to lower costs, bring made-in-America jobs to rural communities, and strengthen the agricultural supply chain and market opportunities to the benefit of producers,” said Agriculture Secretary Vilsack.
