Representative Johnson, the fourth nominee in three weeks, wins the gavel.
The House of Representatives elected Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana as speaker after a vote of the full House on Wednesday. The vote mainly fell along party lines.
Representative Johnson, a constitutional law attorney, was first elected to the House in 2016. Unlike other majority party nominees for the position, Congressman Johnson had the support of former president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The new speaker stated, “We will restore trust in this body. We will advance a comprehensive conservative policy agenda… and support our allies abroad.”
Congressman Johnson’s congressional bio states, “I am a Christian, a husband, a father, a life-long conservative, constitutional law attorney, and a small business owner in that order, and I think that order is important.”
He said his faith and his beliefs about freedom and family have influenced his service in the House of Representatives.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Congressman Johnson as he assumes the role of House Speaker.
- For members of the House to be discerning as they take up legislative business.
