Closed-door meeting held ahead of Tuesday’s secret ballot.
Nine new candidates have entered the race to fill the vacancy for Speaker of the House. They engaged in a closed-door meeting Monday evening to hear from the prospects as to why their platform would make them the best choice for speaker.
On Tuesday morning, the conference will vote in secret ballots. Those with the smallest number will be withdrawn, and the votes will go on.
Contenders include Representatives Tom Emmer of Minnesota, Mike Johnson of Louisiana, Byron Donalds of Florida, Kevin Hern of Oklahoma, Jack Bergman of Michigan, Austin Scott of Georgia, Pete Sessions of Texas, Gary Palmer of Alabama, and Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania.
It is unclear if any can obtain the majority of votes needed when the challenge goes to the House floor.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for members of the House majority as they hold the secret ballot.
- For God’s purposes to be accomplished through the search for a new House Speaker.
