He bundles Israel, Taiwan, and the border into Ukraine request.
President Joe Biden gave a televised speech from the Oval Office Thursday evening in which he appealed to Congress to continue aid to Ukraine with funds also for Israel, Taiwan, and border security.
“American leadership is what holds the world together,” he said. “Hamas and Russian President Putin represent different threats, but they share this in common. They both want to completely annihilate a neighboring democracy.”
The president requested $10 billion for Israel, $8 billion for border security, an unspecified amount for Taiwan, and $60 billion for Ukraine.
Polling has shown that the public is not exactly in agreement with the president. A recent poll showed that 55 percent of Americans oppose additional aid to Ukraine, while support for Israel and securing the border is high.
No budget requests can be approved until the House of Representatives selects a Speaker.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and administration officials as they request aid for supplemental aid for foreign nations under attack.
- For members of the House as they deliberate who to select for the speakership.
- For God to accomplish His purposes in the United States and throughout the world.
