A Biblical Worldview

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit.     Colossians 2:8

You can learn much from statistics. That is probably why so many polls get conducted on everything from scrambled or fried egg preferences to the selections of political candidates. Findings by the Barna Research Group in February 2023 found that 68 percent of Americans consider themselves Christians. Yet, of that group of people, only 6 percent say they hold a biblical worldview. That number was a third higher prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even among Protestant pastors, only 51 percent said they held a biblical worldview.

A worldview is the lens through which you view reality and make sense of life. According to minister David Noebel, author of Understanding the Times, it is “any ideology, philosophy, theology, movement, or religion that provides an overarching approach to understanding God, the world, and man’s relation to God and the world.” Everyone has a worldview. A biblical worldview is based on believing the Bible is entirely true and foundational to life and to “understanding God, the world, and man‘s relation to God and the world.”

Do you believe God’s morals as set out in His Word are absolute? Do you consider the Bible accurate in all its teachings? Having and holding a consistent biblical worldview determines how you live your life. Paraphrasing Romans 12:2, you could say you are not to be conformed any longer to the world’s views, but be transformed by your own study and belief in God’s truth, renewing your mind to a biblical worldview. Ask the Lord to challenge views of the world held by many in Congress so they begin to be renewed in the direction of understanding God and establishing a relationship with Him.

Today’s Verse: Colossians 2:8

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
