Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding. – Proverbs 2:2
On this day in 1780, in rural Cherokee County, South Carolina, the Patriot militia achieved a major victory by defeating the Loyalist militia led by British Major Patrick Ferguson of the 71st Foot at the Battle of King’s Mountain, 9 miles south of present-day Kings Mountain, North Carolina. This battle is noted as the war’s largest all-American fight. Major Ferguson had come to North Carolina to recruit Loyalist troops and protect General Charles Cornwallis’ main force. The Patriots’ unexpected triumph after a series of defeats against General Cornwallis boosted morale and caused the British general to abandon his plan to invade North Carolina invasion plan, retreating into South Carolina. As you pray for governing officials today, remember to “rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer“ as you serve the Lord (Romans 12:11-12).
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For believers who hold elected office to be fervent in their faith and rely on God for strength as they fulfill their duties.
- For wisdom for Secretary of Defense Austin and the commanders of the military commands around the world.
