Bill keeps the government funded for about 45 days.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy brought a temporary government funding bill to the floor of the lower chamber that received bipartisan support to pass. This last-minute legislation averted a government shutdown, which promised to stop a multitude of services, more far-reaching than government shutdowns of previous years.
The Senate then passed the continuing resolution Saturday night and sent it to President Joe Biden’s desk for his signature. The short-term bill keeps the government funded through mid-November.
President Biden stated, “Congress passed the spending bill that’s going to keep the government open. And it’s good news for the American people because the government will not shut down and a needless crisis will have been averted, saving millions — millions of Americans needless pain.“
