Floor debate and vote are not yet scheduled.
Four separate spending bills cleared House committees Tuesday. Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who has not yet scheduled debate or floor votes, said he still expects a struggle to avert a government shutdown. The measures would fund the Departments of State (Foreign Operations), Homeland Security, Defense, and Agriculture.
Although the Senate has passed a continuing resolution that would fund the government after September 30, the House is not close to such an agreement.
Speaker McCarthy said he is still hoping to avoid a partial government shutdown. However, he stated, “There are still a few members that won’t vote for funding the government while we finish all 12 bills.” He is pushing for a short-term funding bill.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for Speaker McCarthy as he seeks consensus on appropriations bills.
- For members of the House to be prudent in their determination regarding the funding of the government.
