When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolations cheer my soul. Psalm 94:19

The First U.S. Congress passed the Judiciary Act during their first session in 1789, establishing nearly the entire judiciary branch of the federal government. This act created 13 court districts within the 11 states that had ratified the Constitution, establishing a circuit court and a district court within each district. The Supreme Court was also established through this act, initially placing six justices on the bench of the judicial body. The position of attorney general was also created at both the federal level and the district level, though the Department of Justice would not be established for another century. The American court system is a vital component of the federal government. Pray today for the justices and judges within the federal judiciary to uphold and interpret the law without bias.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Chief Justice John Roberts and the eight associate justices of the Supreme Court to seek God’s guidance as they decide which cases to take up in the fall term.
  • For judges of the district and circuit courts to be wise in their adjudicating of cases and appeals.
