For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. – Romans 14:17
President William McKinley died on this day in 1901 as the result of an assassination attempt made by an anarchist eight days earlier. The president had undergone surgery to remove the bullets from his abdomen. Though the procedure was successful, gangrene set it and ultimately killed him. Doctors would eventually come to recognize the need to sterilize instruments and keep wounds clean in order for them to heal. As you go about your day, consider the offenses that can accumulate and infect your soul. Be quick to bring these wounds to the Lord to be cleansed and healed by His love, power, and mercy. Ask Him to lead you into forgiveness for those who have caused you pain. Remember that you are, first, a citizen of heaven, and keep your focus on God’s kingdom when the earthly realm is troubled and chaotic. The Lord is still on the throne and He is faithful.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
