Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! – Psalm 100:1
President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a proclamation that declared the United States neutral in the Second World War on this day in 1939. The declaration was in place until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The following day, President Roosevelt called for America to go to war with Japan and Congress authorized it. Three days later, after Germany and Italy declared war against the U.S., Congress declared war against those two nations as well. The United Kingdom, which had been at war with Germany for more than two years and Italy for over a year at that point, declared war on Japan hours before the U.S. did. As you consider the strong alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom today, thank God for His willingness to include you in His family and the strong alliances which He provides through the body of Christ.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For Secretary Lloyd Austin as he seeks to strengthen military alliances with other nations.
- For the president and his administration to seek God’s direction as they decide how to respond to the actions of hostile countries.
