Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons. – 1 Timothy 4:1
Paul wrote to his protege Timothy to warn about those who would make outward regulations a requirement for faith. In the passage following today’s verse, the apostle lists abstinence from marriage and certain dietary restrictions as coming from “liars whose consciences are seared“ (v 2). This caution extends through today, as believers may be tempted to turn their attention and compliance to cultural and societal issues rather than keeping their focus on the Savior. It is important to consider who you allow in your inner circle. Surround yourself with those who are committed to the Lord and His truth. When you know the truth, you can recognize the lies and avoid them! As you trust in the Lord, not your own understanding, and acknowledge Him in all your ways (Proverbs 3:5-6) you become an example and a light to those around you.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For the president and his advisors to seek the Lord’s truth as they make policy decisions.
- For the leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives to rely on God and His understanding.
