U.S. representative commends the move as protecting national security.
Residents in a rural Michigan town in Green Charter Township succeeded in their effort to stop the purchase of agricultural land in their community by a Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-backed company. The company, Gotion, had tried to acquire two large parcels totaling 270 acres zoned for agriculture to establish an electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility.
Representative John Moolenar of Michigan stated, “From nondisclosure agreements that hide details from the public to the obvious national security concerns in our country’s competition with the Chinese Communist Party, this project is wrong for Michigan.”
One report says that the Chinese ownership of American farmlands nationwide is more than 384,000 acres, more than half of which are in Texas.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer said there should be no concerns over the intended CCP-linked purchase. She stated the factory they planned would be “the biggest ever economic development project in Northern Michigan.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his administration as they assess the threats to national security posed by China owning land in the U.S.
- For Governor Whitmer to seek God’s direction for the good of her state and constituents.
- For U.S. senators and representatives as they evaluate foreign entities purchasing American land.
