For the word of God is living and active… discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12
It was on this day in 1790, Congress established the U.S. Revenue Marine Service upon the recommendation of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton. The Revenue Marine Service was designed to be an armed customs enforcement service. As this service grew, legislation was passed to give it more military-focused assignments. On July 31, 1894, the service name was changed to the Revenue Cutter Service, operating under the authority of the Treasury Department. An act of Congress in January 1915 merged this service with the U.S. Life-Saving Service, forming the U.S. Coast Guard. As you pray for the commandant and members of the U.S. Coast Guard today, reflect on the life-saving power of Almighty God, who remains constant. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Intercede as well for the treasury secretary and department officials as they made decisions that impact the financial trajectory of the nation.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For Commandant of the Coast Guard Admiral Linda Fagan to seek God’s guidance as she heads the service.
- For wisdom for Secretary Yellen and officials in the Treasury Department as they make decisions regarding foreign and domestic financial concerns.
