The U.S. Department of Transportation is collaborating with leaders in the transportation industry as well as state and local public officials to raise awareness and prevent human trafficking. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the appointment of 15 new members to the DOT Advisory Committee on Human Trafficking.
Secretary Buttigieg said, “Transportation workers and the traveling public have a key role to play in the fight against human trafficking – which is why it’s so important for everyone to recognize the signs and be prepared to report it.”
The Departments of Transportation and Homeland Security have a joint initiative that trains aviation personnel to spot and report potential traffickers and victims to federal law enforcement. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is promoting public awareness through “Your Roads, Their Freedom” to recognize and report suspected human trafficking. The National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888) is available to receive reports or provide assistance.
