Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. – 1 John 4:1
Parents are the first source of information for children. As children grow older, they obtain alternate sources of information by the friendships they develop. Many times people learn through difficult circumstances that the information given was not the most accurate nor the wisest. As a believer, your best source of information is the word of the Lord. God’s word is life-giving (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4; Luke 4:4). In a world that is inundated with information, as today’s verse urges, weigh what you read and hear. Carefully evaluate and examine what others tell you to see if it aligns with Scripture and the character of God. There are those who talk about God but do not know Him personally, and those who are deceived lead others into deception, whether intentionally or unintentionally! Ask the Lord to give you wisdom to discern the spirit that is behind the information you receive today.
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For wisdom for the president and members of Congress as they receive and assess information.
- For leaders in the intelligence community as they gather and disseminate information to governing officials.
