Marine Expeditionary Unit being sent to deter Iran’s interference with shipping.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit deployed to the Middle East to monitor Iran’s activity around the Arabian Sea. Thousands of Marines will patrol the area with an amphibious assault ship, transport dock, and dock landing ship USS Carter Hall to prevent the Iranian Navy from approaching any more commercial ships.
Since 2021, the Iranian Navy has attacked, harassed, and seized 20 commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, mainly oil tankers.
“These additional forces provide unique capabilities, which alongside our partners nations in the region, further safeguard the free flow of international commerce and uphold the rules-based international order, and deter Iranian destabilizing activities in the region,” stated General Kurilla, head of U.S. Central Command.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Defense Secretary Austin as he assesses the need for U.S. military presence around the world.
- For General Kurilla to be led by the Lord as he commands CENTCOM.
- For the U.S. military personnel patrolling the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.
