The intention is to disrupt illicit financial networks.
Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian Nelson, met with law enforcement when he visited the southern border city of Laredo, Texas, this week. It is his second trip to the U.S.-Mexico border in six months.
The under secretary said, “What we are doing is trying to be as effective as we possibly can in combining Treasury’s tools with the efforts that other U.S. government agencies and allied governments are deploying in this space. … There’s a credible value in seeing that in person.”
He continued, “We can help disrupt financial flows and target the whole supply chain, starting with the precursor chemicals all the way down to distributors bound for U.S. markets. And it’s not just sanctions. These tools, combined with financial mapping that our FinCEN team does, is very, very powerful insight.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Under Secretary Nelson as he endeavors to disrupt the financial networks behind drug trafficking.
- For Border Patrol agents as they work each day to prevent illegal substances from entering the U.S.
- For law enforcement and residents along the U.S.-Mexico border as the migrant population entering the nation strains local resources.
