The unusual meeting signals interest in maintaining U.S.-China relations.
Ambassador Xie Feng of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) visited the Pentagon on Wednesday, attending a 90-minute meeting with Ely Ratner, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs.
Pentagon Spokesperson Lt. Colonel Martin Meiners said, Assistant Defense Secretary Ratner “underscored the Department’s commitment to maintaining open lines of military-to-military communication between the United States and the PRC.”
According to the Pentagon, Ambassador Xie said in the meeting, “A healthy and stable China-U.S. relationship is in the common interest of both countries.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Beijing about a month ago, followed by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen last week. The president’s Special Envoy for Climate, John Kerry is scheduled to meet with Chinese counterparts this weekend.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Assistant Secretary Ratner as he engages with foreign military counterparts.
- For Secretary Lloyd Austin to seek God’s guidance as he oversees the U.S. military’s interaction and communication with China.
- For the president and his administration as they increase the meetings and discussions held with Chinese ministers.
