Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. – Psalm 51:10

President Harry Truman ordered U.S. air and naval forces to South Korea on this day in 1950 to aid that nation in fighting off an invasion by communist North Korea. He explained that the U.S. was undertaking this major military operation to help enforce a United Nations resolution to bring an end to hostilities and the spread of communism across Asia. The president’s decision was met with overwhelming approval from both Congress, as well as U.S. citizens. An armistice was signed two years later, ending the war and reestablishing the boundaries of both North and South Korea. In times of conflict, it is the job of the president to lead all U.S. military forces. As you pray for the nation today, intercede for the president and those who advise him on military matters. Ask the Lord to show you how you can achieve victory in the spiritual battles in your life and in the lives of those with whom you have influence.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Pentagon officials as they gather information and intelligence to advise the president.
  • For the president and his administration as they make decisions regarding military action.
