Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way. – Proverbs 19:2
The Philistine army gathered against King Saul and the men of Israel with chariots and horsemen and troops “like the sand on the seashore” (1 Samuel 13:5). Saul was to wait for Samuel to join him, but he decided he couldn’t wait and offered a burnt offering to appease the people. As soon as he had done this, Samuel arrived. The Lord would have established Saul’s kingdom over Israel forever, but his foolish and rash decision stripped that from him (v. 13). He knew what he was supposed to do but failed to do it.
There are many people today who are ignorant of what will bring them a blessing. They have accumulated knowledge in the sciences, or are well-read in history, some have theoretical knowledge, and others can put theory into practice. Knowledge helps you to know your possibilities, as well as your weaknesses. It has been said that ignorance is bliss, but it can also be dangerous.
Knowledge of God is vital to life. Knowing Him pulls you out of and away from spiritual and moral death. The apostle Peter encouraged those to whom he wrote to “take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:17-18). The path to a life of blessing is knowing your Creator and fearing Him is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 1:7).
Many in this nation and in the nation’s leadership need the light of God’s truth to lead them out of darkness. Pray their eyes will be opened, that they seek the knowledge of God through His Word, and be blessed by His saving grace.
