An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. – Proverbs 18:15
Mariner 5 was launched from Cape Canaveral on this day in 1967. The spacecraft was originally designed as a backup to Mariner 4. After the mission of Mariner 4 was completed, which conducted space exploration of Mars via flyby and successfully transmitted images of that planet back to Earth, Mariner 5 was prepped for a mission to Venus. Many modifications were made due to the difference in the angle of the sun between Mars and Venus as well as the reduction in necessary power due to Venus’ closer proximity to the sun. A little over four months later, Mariner 5 made its fly-by of Venus and helped to decipher data from the Venera 4 lander that got there before it. As you pray for the nation’s leaders today, remember that God specifically created you, just as He formed the planets and stars. Avoid comparing yourself to anyone else – you are a unique masterpiece made by the Creator!
As the Lord leads, pray with us…
- For NASA administrators and scientists to seek God’s direction as they prepare for future exploration.
- For U.S. government officials as they determine the budget and scope of space exploration funding.
