Man who leaked 700,000 files on Discord server charged with espionage.
Magistrate Judge David Hennessy ordered that the man who leaked numerous government files on a Discord-based server remain in jail, denying his request to await trial on house arrest.
On April 13, 21-year-old Air National Guardsman Jack Douglas Teixeira was messaging in a group chat using the app Discord, bragging about his access to secret military files. When his claim’s legitimacy was questioned by other chat members, he released government files documenting military operations in Ukraine and other sensitive areas into the chat, resulting in the largest national security breach since the WikiLeaks incident of 2010.
Part of Judge Hennessey’s reasoning to keep Teixeira behind bars was due to the files’ sensitivity, saying that it was not out of the question that foreign governments would court him for the leaked information.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Judge Hennessy as he hears and rules on the case against the document leaker.
- For military leaders as they assess the security clearances and access of their personnel to top-secret information.
- For Pentagon officials as they evaluate the sensitivity of the number of documents that are classified.
