Neuralink brain chip implant is alleged to violate Animal Welfare Act.
U.S. House Representatives Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and Adam Schiff of California wrote a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), requesting that the department form a panel to offer government oversight over Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain chip business venture. Neuralink has been conducting experiments on animals, inserting brain chips into their test subjects.
The company’s federally-required Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, through which experiments are approved, was reportedly comprised of company employees by more than 80 percent in 2022. The panel has approved experiments that allegedly resulted in animal deaths and suffering.
“Congress has a significant interest in ensuring that all facilities using animals in research and testing – whether they are government-run, universities, or private companies – comply with the minimal standards of the Animal Welfare Act,” the legislators’ letter stated.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For members of Congress as they seek executive branch investigation into Neuralink’s experiments.
- For officials in the USDA as they consider the request for a probe into alleged violations of federal regulations.
