For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. – Galatians 5:1

In the pursuit of biblical understanding, it is helpful to remember that most of the Bible was written for a Jewish audience. Today’s verse refers to “slavery” using the original Greek word, “douleia.” According to Strong’s, this is defined as “a bondage consisting in decay.“ It is not a type of physical bondage of the Hebrews in Egypt or of Africans in America, but the figurative slavery believers experience trying to follow all the rules laid out in the law of Moses. As Paul writes to the Galatian church, he shares that, in and through Christ, there are no hoops to jump through, no circumcisions required, to prove your faith and commitment to God. There is a joy and a freedom that comes through belief in Christ Jesus. He removes the former fear and burden caused by sin, making you righteous in Him. Praise God for His salvation and love, and share it with others!

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the president and his administration to protect and uphold the freedoms enumerated in the Constitution.
  • For Supreme Court justices as they weigh the arguments in cases that challenge the constitutionality of laws.
