Two Places

Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.   Philippians 3:20

The United States officially recognizes 195 countries in the world today. Interestingly, seventy-five percent of those countries allow their people to hold dual citizenship, meaning a person may hold the legal status of a citizen in more than one country. Those individuals enjoy the benefits of two places.

When people accept Christ as Lord and Savior, they also become dual citizens. While still living on Earth the born-again individual becomes a citizen in the Kingdom of God. “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins“ (Colossians 1: 13-14). When you hold that privilege, you may soon notice the significant difference between the two places you are entitled to reside in.

Citizenship in the world is driven by self-love and satisfying the desires of the flesh, it is a place of longing and decay. Citizenship in heaven is focused on seeking God and walking in His Spirit. It is centered around joy and eternal life. The wise in heart will spend their time on Earth in preparation and anticipation for eternity.

Discipleship in Christ is like a boot camp for everlasting life. The challenges you overcome here develop your skills for the wonder you will experience there. Pray for God’s people in this nation to live lives that point others to the reality of Heaven. Intercede for leaders of the nation to submit their hearts to God and obtain their dual citizenship.

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
