“The Department of Transportation (DOT) announced a new partnership with NASCAR on Tuesday to promote National Safe Digging Month during April 2023. “Call 811” will be displayed on NASCAR vehicles, fire, and pit crew suits for more than 30 races during their 2023 season, encouraging Americans to call 811 for more information about areas they wish to dig. The national one-call number informs homeowners and contractors about hidden electrical lines and plumbing lines at their locations, helping them avoid inconvenient and potentially dangerous damages to public utilities.
“Whether you’re doing construction on your property or simply putting in a new mailbox, digging without contacting 811 can have serious consequences for your family and community,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “This National Safe Digging Month, and every month, remember to always contact 811 before you dig.”
