Officials hope an additional $50 million in funding will avoid another technology shortage.
President Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act to speed along the production of printed circuit boards, core technology for military missiles and radars. This action will allocate an extra $50 million to the domestic and Canadian manufacturing of printed circuit boards, which Biden said is necessary to provide these key items to technology producers in a timely fashion.
“I find that action to expand the domestic production capability for printed circuit boards and advanced packaging is necessary to avert an industrial resource or critical technology item shortfall that would severely impair national defense capability,” Biden wrote in his memo accompanying the executive order.
Industry groups had called for such an action last year, warning the administration that there was not enough circuit board production to accommodate the current rate of electronics manufacturing.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That this executive action successfully supports the domestic manufacturing industry.
- That the additional supply of printed circuit boards allows the United States to achieve its goals.
- For God to direct the president as he carefully decides when and how to wield his executive power.
