A strong bipartisan vote was taken in the House.
The Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act of 2023 overwhelming passed the House of Representatives. The bill condemns the Chinese Communist Party’s practice and would sanction anyone involved in forced organ harvesting. Also sanctioned would be those responsible for trafficking people for the purpose of removing organs from them.
“Ethnic groups targeted for mass harvesting include Uyghurs—who suffer from Xi Jinping’s ongoing genocide—and the Falun Gong, whose peaceful meditation and exercise practices—and exceptional good health—make their organs highly desirable,” the bill’s sponsor, Representative Chris Smith of New Jersey, said Monday after the bill passed. “The Chinese Communist Party has declared them to be an ‘evil cult’—fit for butchering.”
The bills now go to the Senate where similar legislation has been introduced. It is not clear when it might be brought forward for a vote.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For God to be at work through federal leaders as they look to highlight human rights violations around the globe.
- For persecuted minority and religious groups and people of conscience in China who are often the ones targeted for their organ “donations.”
